Bravery

Good afternoon everyone! I want to talk a little about the recent weeks. I lost my job in early October. It came as a shock; I was devastated. However, I put on my big girl panties, told myself to suck it up, and I chased a new dream. I knew that job was only temporary anyway considering I will be finished my degree program in a few months. So I decided that I would move on and try “the writing thing”. I registered with a freelance writing website, started organizing my poetry into a book, and continued working on my novel.

I was in touch with several publishers regarding my poetry book and I was met with one disappointment after another. Not because they couldn’t help me or didn’t want my work. But because they all wanted a small fortune to do so.

My dad recommended self-publishing. So I did a little research and found that it was incredibly easy. So I got started. I designed the cover, edited the inside, submitted it for review, revised it again and again. Finally, I got back a draft that I felt was right. So on the market it went. Now, just 12 days later, I’ve sold 12 copies!

I’m doing all my own marketing through my social media sites. Friends and family are responding well. And I couldn’t be more proud of myself. It took a lot of bravery to put myself out there. Especially not knowing how my work would be received. I even have a 5 star rating on Amazon!!! So anyway. I guess I just wanted to put this out there in case someone else needs that little extra push. Be BRAVE!!! You can do it!!!
